This blog is dedicated to my rediscovery of clay. I threw some pots and made some slab built pieces in high school, did some figurative work in college and then completely lost touch when I started studying architecture. My parents gave me a wheel (some) years ago, I was building my house at the time. Despite the distraction, (some) years later I've finished my basement studio and so now (when I have a moment) I'm giving it a spin.

Wood-Fire Workshop, Glencairn Pottery, Lismore, Ireland
Well I've just returned from Ireland and a much anticipated two week wood-fire workshop at the studios of Macrcus O'Mahony. Marcus and his wife Joan live in a beautiful rural area outside of the village of Lismore in county Waterford, Ireland. Their property is surrounded by stone walls and hedge rows outside of which lay open fields inhabited with grazing cattle, pretty nice digs, a ceramicists oasis in a field of green. The added benefit of the rural studio for the wood-firing potter; less neighbors means less complaints about smoke!
The studio is a repurposed stone barn with a guest apartment above.
This is the 19th century farm house Marcus and Joan have restored and it is where several of us stayed during the workshop.
Potter and house-mate Marion Hebblethwaite relaxes after a day at the wheel.
The kiln shed left and the back of the studio right.
I didn't find this hidden boardwalk garden for days, hard to believe its Ireland.
Joey the family cat...an excellent mouser is he.
Nearby stone farm buildings..
Typical county lane in this area.
What Marion called bacon... meat in Ireland is just really good!!
